When you live in the last dunny stop before Antarctica... At time you've just had to make what was not readily available.

Classic examples are South Islanders.... Burt Monroe and John Britten with their world famous motorcycles built in the back shed.

Burts worlds fastest Indian was his concept built for speed on the salt flat and Johns exceptional Daytona twin literally hand built with him casting the engine cylinders in his wife's pottery kiln.

Danny, that it was.... Johns whole life story is on a youtube video I think. He built a retro house made out of recycled materials. Check it out.

That motorcycle shot past a works Ducati down the back straight at Daytona... On one wheel! John died of cancer shortly after but there were about a dozen of these bikes made.

Burt Monroe was a legend, I've watched The World's Fastest Indian more than a few times.
It's a great story.

There used to be a old bloke in Newcastle, who made stocks in the 80s.and early 90 the only thing he had in his shed was a drop saw drill and a drawing knife. But he had orders from all over Aus for his shotgun stocks.

Watching all 4 parts was good. That big belt sander did most of the work, bit quicker and easier than flap discs.
Still a funny kiwi, when working on the action it was in the mess of saw dust.
Saving the britten flick for the big screen. Should be good.
