Some progress.

I got my barrel from T-Bone Shipwrighting , it's a Lothar Walther # 7 shortened to 17", Tom is awesome to deal with and put an excellent target crown on the end after shortening and hot blued it.

Got my action cleaned up a bit and took it to a shop in Dandenong that specialised in black oxide, treated the action and bolt body for $40. 2 hour turn around and great customer service.

My stock from TRM stocks in QLD is very light , has a profile that is sort of a cross between the HS Precision stock found on the Rem 5R and the palm swell from a 700P. really big fan of Bobs work!

Realistically i have a few little things i need to do, some bedding and cerakote work as well as getting the barrel fitted up. I put it together as a mock up to show what it should look like when its done pre- cerakote.

cheers mate, obviously building on something like a howa barrelled action would be cheaper but this is a bit nicer in the end i hope.

yeah true, i have never really loved the feel of the Howa action but they are good i guess,

i am thinking it will wear a 1-6 or 1-8 type optic such as the Vortex Strike eagle but i have a bit of time to decide.

ideally a nightforce 2.5-10 would be a winner but a bit of overkill on this build i think

Choice mate. I remember some sort of browns in the mix were discussed as well... Maybe one of your neat patterning jobs?

I think that little scope was around the $600 mark. The NF around $1600-$1800.

Before you buy, let me talk to some one for you.

After having shot it with the international sales rep (a bloody kiwi!), the Vortex Razor in 1-6 keeps calling to me like a siren to wayward ships.
It’s a Shortdot (Schmidt and Bender) killer.

I’m still going to have to sell a child though!
Maybe if someone would like to become an optics sponsor for Packs and Beyond? (I’ll need an ammunition sponsor too! ;) )

no probs Herne, i'll be a while off getting a scope anyway as i am trying to do this project with extra funds as they turn up so as to not disturb the usual budget :cheer:
