Pitty created the topic: 788 Birch Refinish.
Started the day by removing the varnish with Gel paint stripper. By lunch time i hand sanded it back ready for a few coats of True oil.
The finish is not every ones cup of tea, but its got some nice fine grain going on. Im pretty happy with it overall, its a little different to factory finish...
My dog killer is ready for its next outing, oh & i stole my babies scope & put it on ..... SHUSH

Looks great Mark ;)
Nice bit of wood for a budget rifle!

As you say its a matter of personal taste on what shade of light or dark you go for.

I actually got one of my finished projects out of the safe the other day & upon looking at the finish on it I had a rethink on how light it was.

So Im going to rub it back again & go 3 or 4 shades darker on the stain.

Thing is I loved it 12 months ago :S

I had no intention of doing it, its a work horse. But after pulling it from the safe & i had a bit of true oil left over.
I'll probably leave it as is for awhile now, until next time.....

Only 2 coats Lever, ran out of oil.
